Samir Jain is Vice President of Policy at the Center for Democracy & Technology, where he leads its policy teams advocating for technology policy and governance that promotes human rights, privacy, free expression, and democracy. Samir has 25 years of experience in senior roles in government and private practice working at the forefront of technology law and policy. He served as Associate Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice and as Senior Director for Cybersecurity Policy for the National Security Council at the White House. In those roles, he helped lead the development of national cybersecurity strategy and coordinated development of policy in areas such as cyber incident response, encryption, and electronic surveillance. As a partner at two international law firms, he focused on privacy, content moderation and intermediary liability, regulation of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, and tech-related litigation and investigations.
