ICRA is proud to be a W3C member
13th November 2007 MobileOK Basic Tests is W3C Candidate Recommendation

The W3C's Mobile Web Best Practices Group, of which FOSI is a member, has today reached Candidate Recommendation phase with its mobileOK Basic Tests. This means that developers are invited to create prototype applications and feed back their experiences which are then considered before full Recommendation status can be conferred.

In brief: online content that passes the mobileOK Basic Tests will be able to claim conformance using the Protocol for Web Description Resources (due to reach a similar stage around February 2008) which means that machines will be able to detect, aggregate and promote content for users of mobile devices.

Why is this important to FOSI? Because this is a prime use case for 'positive labelling' - that is, the labelling of content for hard-headed, self-interested commercial reasons. Like mobileOK, the Family Online Safety Institute will make use of POWDER for its ICRA labelling system during the first half of next year. A future application that recognizes and processes mobileOK will also be able to process ICRA labels.
