17-18th June 2009. GSMA/FOSI Roundtable:Mobile Safety and Broadband Responsibility for All - Full Agenda
Venue: GSM Association, 1st Floor, Mid City Place, 71 High Holborn, London, WC1V 6EA
The GSM Association and the Family Online Safety Institute will host two days of international roundtables to bring together some of the leading academics, industry thinkers and child advocates on mobile device safety. These invite-only FOSI roundtables will provide an opportunity to explore the latest research from as far away as Latin America and Asia, and as close as Europe, on current concerns and future trends to keep families, and in particular children, safe from harm in an increasingly digital world. This research will help us understand the very positive ways mobile devices can be used, but will also share where we need to be more vigilant and aware for the sake of the future of our children.
As mobile phones are increasingly seen as the Internet access device of choice for tweens and teens, this cutting-edge research from around the globe will offer a flavour of some of the challenges to come, helping all stakeholders ready themselves for the sea-change. We will look at current European activities like TeachToday and the EU Safer Mobile Framework to give a unique insight into near-term, industry-driven, often ground breaking initiatives. Informed by the ‘Research’ and ‘Current Initiatives’ discussions on the morning of June 17th, we’ll go on to explore the trends and challenges in the sphere of mobile phone child safety that same afternoon. We’ll get a better understanding of the impact of new technologies like location-based services during the Wednesday afternoon panel. Following that we’ll be looking at ways that industry can most efficiently and successfully maintain self-regulation, where it currently works. Finally we hope to gain a clearer understanding of the meaning and effect of convergence, for all the stakeholders. Throughout these roundtable discussions, we need to remember that talking about child mobile safety today incorporates a number of components, including the physical and psychological well-being of our children, as well as their reputations and the consequences and legal implications of their actions.
