Vice President, Chief Policy Officer Ning, Inc.
Jill Nissen is Vice President, Chief Policy Officer at Ning, Inc. where she manages the policies and abuse function and is responsible for the architecture, implementation and on-going counsel to business, legal and engineering teams, for all policy matters, such as, privacy protection, DMCA, content regulation and child online safety. Most recently, Jill was appointed by the U.S. Department of Commerce to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) new Online Safety and Technology Working Group (OSTWG). OSTWG was established under the “Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act” and is dedicated to keeping children safe on the Internet.
OSTWG will work with federal agencies, including the Department of Justice, FTC, FCC and Department of Education to evaluate industry efforts to protect the privacy and safety of children and families online and will report its findings and make recommendations to Congress on how to increase online safety.
Jill was previously a Senior Associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, where her practice focused on intellectual property, licensing and commercial transactions, with specialized expertise in Web 2.0, media, entertainment and technology law. Through her work at Wilson, Jill regularly advised Internet and media clients on content rights issues, copyright and DMCA issues, privacy protection in the digital age, online contracts and e-commerce. Jill is also on the Board of Hands On Bay Area, a non-profit that creates, manages and leads volunteer projects that benefit more than 300 Bay Area nonprofit agencies, including Bay Area Food Banks, The Salvation Army, Ronald McDonald House, and the San Mateo County AIDS Program.
Jill holds a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she served as Articles Editor of the Law and Policy in International Business Journal.
