Director of Child Safety, Communities & Content Policies Yahoo!
Catherine Teitelbaum is the Director of Child Safety, Communities and Content Policies for Yahoo! Inc, the world's largest global online network of integrated services with more than 500 million users worldwide.
During her 10 year career at Yahoo! Catherine has been responsible for wide array of children’s, education and safety products as well as leading community and content standard development and enforcement for all of Yahoo!’s broad network of products. Catherine was responsible for the rapid growth and development of Yahooligans!, Yahoo!’s award winning site for kids, and the launch of Yahoo! Education and Yahoo! Safely. An expert in developing entertainment and educational products for kids online, Catherine oversaw all aspects for these distinct, multi-million dollar businesses used by over 10 million kids, parents, teachers, and lifelong learners each month.
In her role as Policy Director, Catherine has managed a wide array of policy issues related to child safety, education, privacy, community development and standards, user-generated content, abuse reporting, mobile products, safe search, and advertising standards. She also serves as editor in chief of Yahoo! Safely which features safety tips and videos for teens and a parents’ guide with regular blogs from some of the top online safety experts in the country. Catherine works closely with child protection and Internet Safety non-profit organizations including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Internet Keepsafe Coalition, Wired Safety, I-SAFE, ConnectSafely and CommonSense Media.
Prior to joining Yahoo! Catherine worked for a decade as an elementary and middle school teacher and K-8 Technology Coordinator in Northern California. Catherine has a BA in Rhetoric and English from University of California, Davis, received a California multiple subject teaching credential from the Santa Clara University and multiple specialty credentials in Teaching English as a Second Language, Education Technology and Middle School Studies. |
