Pablo Chavez is a policy counsel to Google on various issues including privacy, content regulation, and internet censorship.  Prior to joining Google, Pablo worked in the U.S. Senate for four years.  Most recently, Pablo served as Chief Counsel to the Office of Senator John McCain.  In that capacity, Pablo had a broad portfolio of issues and responsibilities including several internet-focused matters such as the regulation of spyware, online content regulation, internet censorship, internet taxation, and privacy.

Prior to joining Senator McCain's office, Pablo served as a Senior Counsel to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.  In his capacity as counsel to ‘the committee, Pablo was responsible for managing two of the Committee's subcommittees and advised on various issues relating to the Committee’s jurisdiction including internet taxation, corporate governance reform, several consumer protection issues, and oversight of ICANN.

Before joining the senior staff of the Senate Commerce Committee, Pablo was a corporate and securities attorney at the law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he represented both public and private emerging growth companies through all stages of their development.  At WSGR, Pablo served as principal outside legal counsel to several privately held companies.  Pablo practiced law at WSGR from 1997 through 1999, and from 2001 through 2003.  From January 2000 through July 2001, Pablo was Director of Strategic Development and Senior Corporate Counsel at RealNames Corporation, a privately held internet addressing and advertising company.

Pablo received his law degree from Stanford Law School.  He received his A.B. from Princeton University where he majored in Public and International Affairs and minored in Latin American Studies.
