The FRONTLINE producers have created an amazingly compelling documentary that looks at what we've gained and lost in our 24/7 connected lives. "Digital Nation" takes a unique look at the many benefits digital technology brings to our families and communities, but also looks at the disadvantages that come along with our technology dependency. This documentary highlights the need for heightened digital and media literacy programs to help our society cope with the new challenges of living in a web 3.0 world.

Once in a while a broadcast comes along that captures and articulates the challenges families face in a newly emergent Internet age. The PBS FRONTLINE documentary 'Growing Up Online' is just such a broadcast. Produced and directed by Rachel Dretzin and John Maggio, it takes viewers inside the very public and private worlds that kids are creating online, raising important questions about how the Internet is transforming childhood.

This documentary has been at the heart of two FOSI invitation-only events in 2008. Firstly, at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA), in Washington DC in April, and again at the Googleplex in Mountain View, California in September. Both events are part of the Institute's Online Safety Education Initiative and were the backdrop to two highly successful roundtables.
