Julian is Senior Adviser, Editorial Policy at the BBC. His Department's job is to protect the ethical and editorial standards of the BBC on all platforms and in all media.

He has been responsible for writing, updating, and advising on, the self-regulatory guidelines for the BBC's online services, the Online Services Guidelines, since 1997.

Julian has been a member of the Home Office Task Force on Child Protection on the Internet (now the UK Council) and played an active part in the recently published Guidance on Social Networking. He sits on the Funding Council of the Internet Watch Foundation.
