Children today are connected in a multitude of different ways, but the foundation of their online experience typically begins with the technology they have at home. FOSI encourages parents to establish rules, monitor use and discuss safety practices with their children as the best way to help them become safe and self-aware media users.
Furthermore, FOSI’s mission encompasses online safety for the whole family, encouraging parents to learn about the types of new media and social networking their children are participating in, which will give them the knowledge to facilitate better control and more honest conversation with their kids about the activities they engage in online and how to be a proper digital citizen.
FOSI has provided samples of recommended Internet use guidelines in the Internet Safety Contract and Tips documents below, both of which are an excellent way to begin a discussion and help ensure a safe and positive experience online.
