Family Online Safety Institute

Although the Family Online Safety Institute does not deal with illegal material on the internet, around the world there is a growing network of hotlines that do. These specialist agencies usually work closely with national police forces and Internet Service Providers to locate and remove such material. Where possible, they prosecute the offender(s) and have had considerable success in doing so.

The International nature of the Internet makes enforcement of "the law" extremely difficult. There is no "internet law" or single country whose laws and values apply universally, but cooperation between agencies in different countries is commonplace.

The area where agreement is most easily reached however, and an area of particular concern, is child pornography. This is illegal in most countries.
