FOSI Hosts Roundtable to Facilitate the Online Safety Conversation in Latin America

Regional Issues in Online Safety are Highlighted at Mexico City Gathering

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - Today, the Family Online Safety Institute will host a roundtable event at Google’s Offices in Mexico City to encourage dialogue in the region about online safety efforts. The event will bring together representatives from industry, government, and the non-profit sector from Mexico, Latin America and around the world to discuss the local, regional, and global challenges in online safety and best ways to promote digital citizenship.

As more people connect and go online in Latin America, FOSI is convening a discussion of experts to talk about best practices and how NGOs, industry, and the government can work together to help get kids in the region connected and have safe and positive experiences. A broad range of topics will be discussed including cyberbullying, privacy, and technology in education, in addition to the many opportunities that being online can bring to children around the world. The Family Online Safety Institute is committed to spreading the message of online safety, and this event gives attendees the opportunity to contribute to and grow this dialogue in not just Mexico, but Latin America more broadly. Alejandra Lagunes, the National Digital Strategy Coordinator, Office of the President of Mexico will be making remarks at this event. The full agenda and list of speakers is available here.

FOSI is also releasing Spanish language materials in conjunction with the event. On A Platform for Good, FOSI is showcasing a series of blogs in Spanish and FOSI has produced digital reputation checklists in Spanish as well as a compilation of useful Spanish online safety resources.

“We are delighted to be returning to Mexico for this timely roundtable,” said FOSI CEO Stephen Balkam. “We are keen to learn about what’s working in the region and bring back best practices in our outreach to Hispanic communities in the US and Europe.”
