Director, Europe Family Online Safety Institute
For the past 25 years, David Miles has had a wide range of leadership roles in the technology and telecommunications sector. He is currently the European Director of the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI), an international, non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC. FOSI’s mission is to make the online world safer for kids and their families. FOSI convenes the top thinkers and practitioners in government, industry and the non-profit sectors to collaborate and innovate and to create a “culture of responsibility” in the online world.
Working with a growing FOSI membership throughout the European, Middle East and African region, David also oversees the organizations web site and wider online strategy. David is based in the UK, is a member of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS), as well as an active participant in wider European Commission initiatives.
After an early career in retail with Dixons Stores Group (DSG), David entered the computer industry in 1984. Consecutive senior executive roles in Motorola, Packard Bell and Compaq, during the industry’s most formative stages, have given him a unique insight and International perspective. In 1998 David became IBM’s Marketing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa for its Consumer Division.
In 2003 David joined the board of the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) and was actively involved with the organization through two member companies (SolarSoft and RuleSpace), both pioneers in the field of online safety technology and services. In 2008 David assumed his current role as European Director for FOSI.
David is a History graduate from the University of Kent at Canterbury and has a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). |
