Director of National Policy Children Now
Jeff McIntyre is the Director of National Policy for Children Now, a child advocacy organization that champions the needs of children with a successful combination of research and advocacy.
Jeff recently served on the Federal Communication Commission’s Task Force on Media and Childhood Obesity and serves as Co-Chair of the Children’s Media Policy Coalition. He was named to the White House Task Force on Navigating the New Media and served as an advisor to the FCC’s V-Chip Task Force and the Federal Trade Commission’s Study on the Marketing of Violence to Children. He was part of the negotiation team for the development of a new television ratings system and currently serves on the Oversight Monitoring Board for the TV Ratings System. He has testified before the Senate Commerce Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, the House Commerce Committee of the United States Congress, the National Academy of Sciences, and the U.S. Institute of Medicine concerning children and media issues.
Jeff has appeared on/in CNN, Fox News, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, CBS, The Washington Post, Headline News, C-SPAN, The Village Voice, several local public affairs television programs, and on numerous radio talk shows through out the United States. He has been an invited speaker before organizations such as the Ms. Foundation for Women, TransAfrica, the Children’s Defense Fund, the National League of Cities, and the Toy Manufacturers of America. He was recently recognized as ‘Chairperson for the Day’ at the 2007 World Summit on Media for Children in South Africa. His publications include a recent article in the Journal of the American Behavioral Scientist.
His prior experience includes death penalty work with Amnesty International and several years in the Washington D.C. inner-city school system teaching conflict resolution and non-violence skills to gang members. He is an avid whitewater kayaker, holding the highest teaching and rescue certifications from the American Canoe Association and is currently sponsored by Dragorossi Kayaks of Milan, Italy. Jeff holds a graduate degree in Ethics from The American University in Washington D.C.
