Vice President, Public Policy Sesame Workshop
As Vice President of Public Policy for Sesame Workshop, Patti Miller is charged with working at state and federal levels to promote the non profit organization’s outreach programs and galvanizes resources in education and media from a variety of public sources. She is responsible for cultivating and maintaining the Workshop’s profile on issues affecting children, education, and media, both domestically and internationally. Miller reports to Myung Kang-Huneke, who oversees legal and regulatory affairs as part of her role as Vice President, General Counsel.
Prior to joining Sesame Workshop, Miller served as Vice President of the Children & the Media Program at Children Now, a national child advocacy organization based in California. In this role, she oversaw independent research projects as well as monitored public policy developments, as they affect children, in the communications field.
Miller co-chaired the Children’s Media Policy Coalition which consists of a broad group of public health and child advocacy organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association. She also led the advocacy sector of the Joint Senate/Federal Communications Commission Task Force on Media and Childhood Obesity and has testified before the Senate Commerce Committee, the Senate Appropriations Committee and the House Commerce Committee of the United States Congress, as well as the Federal Communications Commission. She has appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, NPR’s All Things Considered and Marketplace, Business Week and USA Today. Currently, Miller is a member of the PBS Kids Advisory Board and the Georgetown University Digital Media Center Advisory Board.
Miller holds an M.A. in Social Sciences in Education from Stanford University and is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in Mass Communications. Miller recently finished her regular bi-coastal commute and now lives in New York City. |
