Luis Abril (Spanish, 1948) holds a degree (Licenciado) in Economics and Business Administration (1971) as well as in Law (1970) from Universidad Comercial de Deusto (Bilbao, Spain), and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (1973) from North European Management Institute, Oslo, Norway.

He started his professional career as a Microeconomics Professor in Deusto, where he then went on to head the Finance Department. In 1978 he moved to Banco de Vizcaya as Treasury Manager, and then worked as head of the Chairman’s Technical Staff. During his work at Bilbao Vizcaya banking Group (1988-1991) he served as General Manager of the Asset Management and Private Banking areas. During the 1994-99, period Mr. Abril acted as General Manager for Banco Español de Crédito (Banesto) and as General Manager of Research and Communications for Banco Santander Central Hispano (BSCH) (1999-2001).

Currently, Mr. Abril serves as General Manager of the Chairman’s Technical Office at Telefónica S.A., where he previously was appointed Chairman of Telefónica Media Group, General Manager of Corporate Marketing, Media and Content and General Manager of Corporate Communications. He is currently General Manager and member of the Executive Committee. He is married and has four children.
