2018 Events Intern

The Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) is seeking a part-time Events Intern. The events intern primarily supports the team’s efforts around FOSI’s November annual conference, but they may also research trends in the internet industry, maintain the Global Resource and Information Directory (GRID), and write blog posts FOSI’s Good Digital Parenting initiative. The ideal candidate should be interested in learning about non-profit management and the policy side of the technology industry.

Interns typically work 2-3 days per week in FOSI’s Washington, DC office, dates and hours are flexible. The position is unpaid, but a lunch and travel subsidy are provided. FOSI is happy to work with any college or university to provide academic credit for the internship.


Responsibilities may include,

  • Creating promotional materials for the annual conference and other events
  • Researching potential speakers and topics
  • Event support, including registration and database management
  • Outreach to potential sponsors and event attendees
  • Shadowing senior staff in meetings and phone calls with speakers, members, potential event sponsors, and steering committees
  • Joining regular meetings, where fundraising strategy and event planning are discussed
  • Assisting with other special projects and events help parents, teens and teachers get the most out of the Internet
