A Transatlantic Dialogue

Register now for FOSI’s 2024 European Forum on Wednesday, June 5th in Paris, France!

This event will bring together key government leaders and regulators working to advance online safety, and to discuss international regulatory developments. We will also hear from top representatives across industry, academia, and the nonprofit sector as they debate the implications of current and pending global legislation, and how this changing landscape may impact platform policies and practices.

Throughout the day, additional panels will cover topics including implications from recent research, parenting in the digital world, and the latest tech solutions. Parents have an incredibly hard job keeping up with their kids and all the apps and platforms they use on a daily basis. Parental controls are one technology that has become more family friendly and effective in recent years. This panel will discuss raising kids from the most online generation yet and share some of the most helpful practices, research, and discussions that have helped increase their family’s online safety.

Every year has the potential to be defined by technological developments that change how we interact with digital media. This has felt especially true in recent years with the proliferation of parental controls on platforms, the meteoric rise of genAI, and the expansion of products focused on safety. These speakers will discuss how their companies innovate in the online safety space, through new products, utilizing new technologies, and better educating their users.

Experts discuss their latest research into the risks, harms, and rewards of digital life. With a plethora of ideas for improving online safety, it is important to highlight and uplift policy and product proposals that are based in evidence. This panel will present and discuss a range of recent work and how best to use the results and findings.

2:50 PM - 3:30 PM: From the DSA to the USA: A Transatlantic Dialogue

Europe continues to advance world leading laws and regulations that have and will continue to shape the internet and our online lives. From data privacy and industry competition to more recent work on digital services and AI, the EU has significantly regulated the internet. This panel will share their first-hand experience creating and implementing such regulation, as well as breaking down the impact on platforms and real users, and examine how other countries have reacted.
