Celebrate Internet Safety Month

We are kicking off the summer with Internet Safety Month! To celebrate, we are highlighting our best tools, resources and advice for keeping your family safe online. There are a lot of great parental controls and privacy settings out there that are a great place to start when thinking about Internet Safety. It is important to take the time to review the privacy settings of each app and program your family uses. A great place to start is to ask if an online profile is "public or private." If it is public, switch it to private.

In addition, another positive step toward safe experiences online is to talk to your kids and engage with them online. Talking with your kids about Internet use is our first step of our 7 Steps to Good Digital Parenting. We also have the 3 Teachable Moments, to help parents determine the three times it is imperative that they talk to their kids about their tech use. We even provide some talking points to help get you started. Of course, we encourage you to talk to your kids about their online use as often as you can. Don't forget to talk about digital citizenship: How your child behaves online has a great impact on their and others' online safety.

Use this month to start the conversation about Internet Safety and kick off the summer with positive tech use. Scroll through the resources to the left and check back as we add more throughout the month! For even more information join our Twitter chat on June 15 at 2 p.m. EST using #FOSICHAT.
