Online safety expert and digital media veteran, Catherine Teitelbaum, joins the Ask.fm team in her newly created role of Chief Safety Officer. In this capacity, she works to establish innovative safety guidelines and user protections designed to create a safer online community, as well as oversees all safety-related product, policy, and operational initiatives for the global Ask.fm user community.
Most recently, Teitelbaum served as the Vice President of Global Trust and Safety at KidZania, where she developed the company’s first international experiential marketing program and a transnational loyalty program for children. She also led several groundbreaking governance initiatives focused on enhancing user privacy and safety.
Prior to her leadership role at KidZania, Teitelbaum held senior positions within Yahoo, Inc., including an extensive tenure as the company’s Director of Global Safety and Product Policy. For more than 10 years, Teitelbaum oversaw digital safety operations, as well as educational programming and policy initiatives at Yahoo, while also developing innovative digital platforms for children. Under her direction at Yahoo, Teitelbaum co-founded the Employee Foundation—a grassroots, philanthropic organization with global non-profit donations totaling more than $15 million in cash grants.
An established change-agent and pioneer in the realm of digital safety, Teitelbaum has served as a key contributor to several prominent international committees and taskforces, including the U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s Online Safety and Technology Working Group (OSTWG) and Harvard University’s Berkman Center Internet Safety Technical Task Force (ISTTF). She has also served as the Vice-Chair of the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) and provided testimony before the Congressional Child Online Protection Act Commission.
