Delegate Michelle Lopes Maldonado represents Virginia's 20th House District in Northern Virginia. Her expertise is in technology, start-ups, strategic partnerships, and leadership & workforce development. She is a former technology & business lawyer and tech leader who founded the General Assembly's bipartisan and bicameral Technology & Innovation Caucus. She is a member of the Joint Commission on Science and Technology (JCOTS) and its AI Subcommittee as well as the Southern Region Education Board (SREB) AI In Education Commission, and the NCSL Taskforce on Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Privacy. Delegate Maldonado also is a steering committee member for a national AI work group comprised of state legislators from around the country.
In other areas of service and passion, Delegate Maldonado Chairs the Affordable Housing Policy Committees, the Judicial Subcommittee of the Courts of Justice and the Insurance and Financial Institutions Subcommittee for Labor and Commerce. She also is a member of the Privileges & Elections and Communications, Technology & Innovation Committees and sits on two additional commissions: the Health Insurance Reform Commission (HIRC) and the Virginia Commission on Coal & Energy.
In her non-elected capacity leading people and organizations through growth, performance, and transformation, Michelle has been recognized as “Woman of The Year,” “Top Corporate Leader," among the “12 Powerful Women in the Mindfulness Movement,” a "2024 Impact Maker" (by Virginia Magazine), and was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society. Delegate Maldonado’s work has been featured in the DQ Institute in association with the World Economic Forum, United Nations Global Engagement Summit, Human Capital Institute, the Mindful Leader Summit, Leadership Excellence, Huff Post, and Thrive Global.
