Salome Apkhazishvili is a journalist and communications scholar from the country of Georgia. She has received her MA in Communications from the University of Southern Indiana (’20). Her master thesis explored the role of the smartphone in parent-child collaboration and on building media literacy skills. Ms. Apkhazishvili is a recipient of Fulbright scholarship for her graduate studies in the USA. Her interest in media literacy cuts across journalism and education.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in early March, I was in the middle of my graduate school research, hoping to reveal the role that smartphones play in collaboration between family members. I was lucky enough to have finished interviewing the parents of 10-17-year-old just before social distancing and stay-home orders became a new normal.
